Why can’t I view images of the documents?

The catalogue contains information about our holdings and not images of the documents themselves. This is because of the enormous number of images involved. It would take many months of concerted effort (and a huge budget!) to create digital versions of all the material in our collection. In the City Council’s own archive, for example, one minute book alone could be made up of over 1000 pages, and there are hundreds of minute books within the collection. To view the original documents, you will need to visit our search room at the Central Library.
